Splashed white, also simply called splashed, is a member of the overo type markings.
Most splashed horses have modest markings, looking like simple leg markings. Others have the characteristic of looking like they where dipped in white paint. Splashed horses have blue eyes, and usually have extensive face markings. "Minimal" splashed white horses may only have white leg markings, making them physically appear to not carry the trait. "Maximum" splashed white horses may have such extensive markings that nearly their entire body is white.

Though not deadly like framed overo, splashed white gene may cause a horse to be partially or completely deaf. The cause of this is the extensive white face markings. If the skin on the inner ear is not pigmented (pink), the hair follicles needed for perceiving sound will die.
Genes that are in bold are active on the coat. Genes that are underlined are genes that the horse may carry, but will have no visible effect on the coat.
