Controls
Middle click to orbit the camera Scroll to zoom in or out Shift + Middle click to pan the camera |
Step 1 : Opening the Model
Open Blender. Delete the cube in the center of the work space, if you have one, then go to File > Import > Wavefront (.obj)
This will open up a new window. By default, it goes to your documents folder. You will want to place your model on either your desktop or in your documents folder to find it easily. Navigate to wherever your .obj file is and import it. This will open up the model. |
Step 2 : Open Two Work Spaces
To be able to edit your UV Map and preview it on the model at the same time, you will want to have two work spaces open. To do this, simply click and drag the lines at the top right of your first window. This will open two work spaces. By default, the second window will have the same view as your first, but it will operate separately.
In this second window, change it's editor type to UV/Image Editor.
Step 3 : Preparing the UV Map
Now, you will need to prepare your UV Map to use the correct texture size. In your second window, look at the bottom control panel and lick + New, then set your width and height dimensions to 512x512. Click OK.
Step 4 : Previewing Your Texture
Click the Open Image icon and navigate to wherever you saved your texture and open it. You won't be able to see your texture right away. Now, go to where you changed your mode and change Edit Mode to Texture Paint.
You should now be able to see your texture on the model! To update your UV Map, simply change your mode back to Edit Mode, then repeat step 4.
